Have your say on the future of Sydney Harbour
The Outer Sydney Harbour Coastal Management Program (CMP) is a collaborative project led by the Sydney Coastal Councils Group, including Northern Beaches Council and 7 other councils, working together with NSW Government agencies.
You can help shape the future of outer Sydney Harbour by sharing views across biodiversity, coastal hazards, heritage and waterway health. Your input will help shape the long‑term strategic direction of the CMP.
Comments are invited until 31 March with residents, businesses and harbour-users encouraged to have a say through an interactive map and themed feedback tools.
April 2026 Reefcare Session
Despite Saturday 4 April being during Easter, Reefcare's schedule working day of the first Saturday of the month is proceeding. We are hoping for cooler weather and get down to the bottom of the site and work around there, after the last two months working in the Top Paddock. Depending on the number of people coming along, we may have some plants to put in the ground. So hop along to Reefcare's working bee on Saturday 4 April.
Bushcare Training Day
The next Bushcare Training day being run by Northern Beaches Council is on 30 May 2026.
If you are interested you will need to register to attend as this event can book out quite quickly - it is, very popular.
So go to: bushcare@northernbeaches.nsw.gov.au
The Northern Beaches Wildflower Project
The project seeks to rewild underutilised council-owned land, including road verges and reserve edges, through the establishment of low-growing native wildflower and grass meadows that enhance biodiversity and ecosystem processes. Sites will be managed by community volunteer groups with support from Council, promoting local stewardship while contributing to the development of self-sustaining native seed banks. Community members can become involved by forming a group and submitting an expression of interest for suitable locations through the Council.
2026 March Reefcare Session
The next working day for Reefcare Volunteers is Saturday March 7 at 8:45, where we will allocate equipment, gloves, weed bags et, sign on and then walk down to site to start work at 9am.
We will be mainly weeding on the day as it is too early in the year to be planting. We will probably target asparagus fern, turkey rhubarb, non-native pigs face, and if there are any annual/s they will be high priority for removal.
If you want to join Reefcare to have a day out in a beautiful setting, then join up and get to meet a great group of people.
Planting at Avalon's Sand Dunes
The Avalon Sand Dunes is in need of restoration and want volunteers to come along on Sunday 1 March from 8:30am to 12pm to plant natives to assist in the stabilising of Dunes in this area.
Clean Up Australia Day
Northern Beaches Council are inviting the community, schools and businesses to take part in Clean Up Australia Day, Sunday March 1st, for its 36th year to help keep our beautiful beaches clean and pristine.
If you are interested, then register a site to clean or volunteer at an already registered site near you!
New Bush regeneration group in Narrabeen
The Northern Beaches is fortunate in having many areas of natural beauty. There are over 450 volunteers who work at over 50 different sites throughout the Northern Beaches Council area where they are often partners with local residents to preserve and maintain valuable areas through the Council Bushcare program. This involves removing weeds and encouraging regeneration of native plants.
Through this initiative of encouraging new bush regeneration groups, a local resident contacted NBC about establishing a group on Ocean Street (just south of Malcolm St). So after preliminary preparation and waiting for the heat of summer to be over, this new group is starting on the last Saturday of the month on 28 Feb from 8:30am to 11:30am.
So please register with NBC and come along!

This month we’ll be planting around 30 tube stock plants in and around the western part of the site. Some of the planting will be on steeper slopes, so we’ll be creating small terraces to help the plants take root.
If we have time, we’ll also continue removing non-native pigface from the top western section near the gully and trim back Bitou bush along the northern dunes.
No experience needed — just bring your enthusiasm, a hat, and a smile! It's a great way to meet others, learn about local coastal restoration, and make a hands-on difference for nature.
